The
Governance of the First Presbyterian Church |
The
Presbyterian Church is a representative democracy governed
by elders elected by and from the congregation. The Greek
word "Presbuteros" in the new Testament means "elder" and
refers to the church’s democratic governing form.
|
The
Session is the local governing body. |
| The session is a group of
12 members who are called by the Holy Spirit through the
Nominating Committee, elected by the congregation and ordained
to the office of Elder. Each Elder serves a three year
term with a new class of 4 members elected each year.
|
|
Each Elder also serves
on one of four committees. |
- ADMINISTRATION
- Buildings, grounds, and stewardship.
- CELEBRATION -
Worship, fellowship, communion, and music.
- NURTURE - Christian
education
- MISSION - Evangelism,
membership, outreach, and special offerings.

|
BOARD OF SYMPATHY AND
SERVICE
| Deacons are called by the Holy
Spirit through the Nominating Committee, elected by the
congregation and ordained to the office of Deacon. Our
church has seven Deacons, divided into three classes. One
class elected each year for a three year term.
Deacons are responsible for home
communion, worship at the Omro Care Center, flowers and
paraments in worship, coffee hour, care of the sick and
homebound, meals to those home from the hospital, and shepherds
to new members. |

We
are called to be a community of faith in Christ where people experience
the presence of God and demonstrate the new reality revealed in Jesus
Christ. We trace our roots to the Protestant Reformation in Europe.
Presbyterians are governed by Scripture through the
Book of Order and guided by The Book of Confessions. |
